Did you get to see the ice yachts on the lawn of the FDR library in Hyde Park? They were there for a few days, ending on Sat. Jan 3rd. If you missed it, here are a couple of images from Saturday, while the weather was nice, cold but nice. The boats are a part of The Hudson River Ice Yacht Club (HRIYC), which traces its roots back to 1869, when it was founded by Commodore John E. Roosevelt, FDR’s uncle.
Some of these yachts are over 50′ long, and can reach speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.. almost as fast as some of the yokels that speed down Old Post Road…
